Photography Workshop
When you bought your digital camera, you thought that you would be able to take great photos to your liking.
After all, it had many advanced functions that made it a machine capable of faithfully recording the scene
in front of you without any effort on your part except for pressing the shutter. After a number of disappointing results, you realized that, in many instances, it would have been preferable to use the camera’s manual functions and, on certain occasions, even ignore its recommended settings. But, how could you know which approach to use? Here is a highly personalized workshop (maximum of 3 participants) that will enable you to master your camera’s controls as you go around shooting photos in one of the most picturesque regions of Québec: Charlevoix. Your instructor is Robert Chiasson, whose images have illustrated many books, magazines and advertising campaigns, including the health insurance card that Quebeckers carry in their wallet and which is commonly referred to as the “carte soleil.“ He has also taught introductory and advanced photography at several colleges as well as at Laval University. Dates : Maximum number of participants: Durée : 2½ jours (vendredi soir au dimanche midi) Duration: 2½ days (Friday evening to Sunday noon) Tuition fee: $325.00 per person, plus taxes
This workshop is intended for those who want to take their picture-taking to a higher level in order to
produce images that will make them proud. During the classroom part of the workshop, you will review the basic notions of photography and you will learn how and when to use your camera’s manual controls to achieve stunning images. You will also be introduced to the rules of composition that form the basis of all pictorial expressions. Finally, emphasis will be placed on developing your personal vision because, ultimately, the photo is not taken by the camera but by you.
During the practical part of the course, you will go on outings in different areas of Charlevoix, each having been selected for its ideal light conditions.
In addition to "doing homework", you will give free reign to your imagination with a view to developing a sense of critical "seeing"
as you study the scenes you will be photographing. Periods will be set aside during which you will submit your best creations for constructive critiquing by the group. In addition, Robert will give you a demonstration of the techniques for improving the quality of your images with the help of Photoshop software. Transportation during the outings, refreshments during the workshop and all the course notes are included in the tuition cost.
Comments from past participants "Not having attended a workshop in decades, I had not anticipated such a high level of professionalism and attention to detail in the presentation of a course by an instructor dedicated to the pursuit of perfection." J.D. "The handouts, with their illustrations and references, proved extremely valuable. While the many hours that I have spent studying books and following instructions on CDs were useful, your documentation and the examples you showed on screen were far more effective, easier to understand and to the point. The level of knowledge gained and the ease with which I acquired it made for a very pleasant experience."
